Questions to Ask My Child’s Dentist
October 31, 2021 12:54 pmIn this blog post, we suggest some smart questions for you to ask your child’s dentist and hygienist so you can get the most out of their routine dental visits.
Is My Child Brushing Their Teeth Well Enough?
During your child’s visit, ask if there are areas of their mouth that need some extra attention during their oral hygiene routine. Your child may be missing a certain area or brushing too aggressively, which is irritating their gums and increasing their risk of tooth decay.
Your child should be flossing every day and brushing their teeth at least twice a day for two minutes each time with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoridated toothpaste. They’ll likely need help brushing until age 6 or 7, at which point you should still supervise to make sure they’re brushing carefully and for long enough. Children under 3 years old only need a smear of toothpaste the size of a grain of rice. Children older than 3 years old can use a pea-sized amount. Encourage your child to spit and rinse after brushing when they are able.
Does My Child Need Braces?
At Tots to Teens Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, we offer a variety of orthodontic options for children, teens, and adults. We can evaluate your child’s teeth and jaw to determine if they’d benefit from braces.
What Dental Products Should My Child Use?
Certain products and tools can make at-home oral care easier and more enjoyable for children. These can include electric toothbrushes, water flossers, timers, videos, apps, and more. Our team would love to give personalized recommendations to help your child improve their dental health and have a better attitude about their oral hygiene!
