Does Our Office Offer Sedation Dentistry for Kids?
March 24, 2020 8:00 amWe understand how intimidating getting dental care or visiting a dental office can be for a child. We’ve designed our pediatric dental office specifically so that it’s a bright, colorful place where kids can feel at ease. Our friendly team is trained to work with children and help them stay calm despite their nerves. We also offer sedation dentistry. This is when safe sedative drugs are used to help a patient relax during a dental procedure. For some (adults included), it can mean the difference between being able to care for their oral health or not.
At Tots to Teens Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics in Laredo, TX, we provide sedation dentistry in a well-monitored environment where your child’s safety is always our top concern. Here’s a little bit more about sedation dentistry and what we offer.
Reasons for Sedation Dentistry
There are many situations when children benefit from sedation dentistry. For example, if your child:
- Is afraid of the sights, sounds, or smells associated with dental treatment.
- Gets anxious when receiving dental care.
- Has a sensitive gag reflex.
- Requires extensive dental work.
- Is unable to sit still or hold their mouth open for the length of time required for their dental procedure.
Types of Sedation Dentistry We Offer
At Tots to Teens Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, we offer three types of dental sedation: nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and general anesthesia. Nitrous oxide or laughing gas is a mild calming agent that’s administered through a nose mask. Oral sedation is administered through a prescribed pill taken a specified amount of time before your child’s dental appointment. General anesthesia is administered at a local hospital and monitored by the appropriate medical professionals.
If you have any questions about sedation dentistry at Tots to Teens Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics and whether it might be right for your child, please call our Laredo dental office or send us an email. Our experienced team would be more than happy to give you more information.
